Throughout her career, Rita has worked to encourage participation in the political process from all of the diverse communities that make up Kansas City. Today is no exception. Last year during Hispanic Heritage Month, KCPT ran a series entitled “Hometown Heroes” which profiled several local Latinos and the impact the have had in their community and throughout Kansas City. Rita was proud to be a part of the project and she is grateful to KCPT for their coverage and their inclusiveness of Kansas City’s Latino Community and their recognition of the role that Latinos play in this city’s future.

One of the major themes in Rita’s campaign is her ongoing effort to empower all communities in Kansas City work together. For more than 30 years, Rita has been involved in organizations throughout the metro area. Rita has a lot of experience in fostering cooperation! In the video above, Rita not only talks about her philosophy of bringing people together in relation to community development but also demonstrates her ideas using some of the Homie toys she keeps on her desk. This is Rita’s first video. We intend this to be just a brief introduction for those few of you out there who haven’t met Rita throughout the years. We think it’s a good way to let you get to know her (if you don’t already). Our goal for these video blogs is not simply to shoot campaign commercials for the internet, but to assist KCMO voters to know what Rita’s really like and how she feels about a variety of issues that impact Kansas City.
